Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shakar, one of the American and British sitarist. She was the first and first woman to receive a British House of Commons Shield she's received 9 Grammy Awards nominations and was the first musician of Indian origin to perform live and to be a presenter for the awards ceremony. Anoushka Shankar is an emerging young star of the Indian sitar. She is the student and child of Ravi Shankar. Her birthplace was London in 1982. In the first few years of her life she was split her time between London New Delhi. The first time she performed was on stage in New Delhi when she was just 13 years old. In Encinitas the state of California, in 1999 she earned a high-school degree. Her career as a recorder and performer is quite impressive, in spite of her age. She performs regularly with her dad and has done so for a long time years. Her debut solo album, Anourag, was released in 1998. The following year, she released the Grammy nominated Live on stage at Carnegie Hall. The stage work she has done is extensive for she has appeared in all of the world's major venues. Anoushka isn't just a musician. In 2002, she wrote an autobiography titled Bapi The love of My Live this is an illustrated biography that is a honor to her late father Ravi Shankar. The year 2003 saw her starred on Dance Like a Man as an actress and Bharat Natyam dancer. Anoushka's career is still developing and she is expected to do many great things in the near future. Anoushka was raised in England, but spent most of her childhood between London in the UK and Delhi. Then she moved to California and went to high school. At the age of nine, she began studying music under her father making her performing debut on the sitar four years later, at his 75th birthday celebration in Delhi. Anoushka gained a lot of experience touring around the globe along with her dad. She appeared in Carnegie Hall in her teenage time, and also recorded at George Harrison's WOMAD Festival. As a tribute to her status as one of the top musicians in Asian Arts, she was presented with the House of Commons Shield by British parliament.
